As St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Holy Spirit gathers us to:
The people of St. John’s Lutheran believe that God grants salvation by grace through faith. This free gift comes through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We found our discipleship from the stories and witness found in the Bible, God's hope-filled word.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in American grew from Martin Luther’s work which spawned a reformation and renewal of the Christian church in 1517. St. John’s Lutheran continue Luther’s emphasis on a loving, welcoming and forgiving God. We seek to live faithfully, inform our faith through study, rejoice in God’s free gift of forgiveness and make Christ known through our words and service in the region and world.
St. John’s Lutheran Church celebrates two Christian sacraments—Baptism and Communion. We believe that these gifts offer forgiveness and compel the Christian to offer redeeming love and loving acts. We practice sacramental hospitality. All baptized people of all ages and Christian affiliations are invited to receive Holy Communion at St. John’s.
As a member congregation of the South Carolina Synod of the ELCA, St. John’s is a Columbia-area congregation affiliated with a church body comprised of nearly 4 million members and over 9,000 congregations throughout the U.S. We at St. John’s Lutheran Church are called to make Christ known in our communities and by providing an open and caring place of worship.
