As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.
St. John’s WELCA has a history of many years of different activities, ranging from bible studies, Mother-Daughter-Friend Banquets, covered dish suppers and leading Sunday morning worship services. The WELCA has been involved in outreach projects such as supporting state and national drives for needy school children, local food banks, newborn babies of refugees in foreign countries, as well as providing toiletries for the imprisoned. As we transition into a new age, we continue to look for ways to answer God’s calling and for fellowship opportunities with our sisters in Christ.
We will make disciples of men that have a deep and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. We do this by financial support of the Lutheran mission churches in South Carolina along with the Master Builders Bible Program, One Year to Live Retreats, Building Men Through Christ Seminars and Men In Action young men events.
At St. John's, our LMM group cooks Easter breakfast after our annual Sunrise Service. They also sponsor cookouts throughout the year.
The YALL Group at St. John's is comprised of members and friends between the ages of 21-45 who want to develop meaningful friendships and grow spiritually. The YALL Group provides many opportunities to connect with others through serving and social events.
This highly active group is responsible for organizing many of the events at St. John's, including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. We hold several fundraising and/or community service events throughout the year to help our community, including the Annual Shrimp ‘n Grits Dinner; the BOGO Turkey sale in November, donating one frozen turkey for every fried turkey sold to the Harvest Hope Food Bank; and, most recently, the Kenslie Shealy Benefit Concert which raised over $11,000 to help Kenslie’s family.
In addition to these events, we also get together as a group several times each year for fun, food and fellowship. For upcoming events, or to connect with members of the YALL Group, please visit our Facebook page.
Fifty years of experience required to be Young at Heart. The YAH Group at St. John's meets on the last Friday evening of every month at various local restaurants to enjoy food, fun and fellowship.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
We believe that teaching our children about Jesus and raising them in the faith is one of our most important jobs. St. John's offers many opportunities for fellowship, fun and service for the children of our church. From Sunday School classes each Sunday morning during the school year to Vacation Bible School each summer, children learn numerous bible lessons and how to be Christian heroes in our own community.
Our children also have the opportunity to assist in Sunday worship. When you visit St. John’s you will regularly see children filling the roles of acolyte and usher, and performing special music during the service.
We also have joint confirmation classes with St. Peters Lutheran Church and participate in youth events with the South Carolina Synod.
